Car hire is very easy in Barbados. There are several firms which offer a wide range of vehicle - from saloon to convertible and Jeep. Your host has teamed up with Quality Auto Rentals so be sure to check them out.
The journey to Panthera Terra is very easy and when you pick up your car, a map will be provided to help you find your way. It's roughly about an hour's drive from the airport to the apartment, depending on traffic and how familiar you are with the route.
If you are at all unsure about driving on the Island immediately upon your arrival, then you could take a taxi and arrange for a hire car to be delivered to the apartment.
The taxi rank can be found in front of the Arrivals Building and there are attendants who will help you secure your cab since there is a strict queuing system which minimizes any waiting time. You can agree the fare before your trip so there is no need to worry about negotiating with your driver.
If you prefer not to drive at all, that's absolutely no problem. There is a direct bus route from the airport and stops just at the road of the apartment.
You have a choice of two types of bus service in Barbados. The Blue Bus (with yellow stripe) is state-owned and you must have the correct fare of B$2 as they don't provide change. The privately owned Yellow Buses are more easy going and, more often than not, have music blasting from the speakers - quite an experience!
There are very few places which aren't served by either bus so while having your own car is certainly more convenient, it is not essential.
